Board and staff

EEA, despite limited resources, performs its duties professionally.  EEA has employed  a community officer who conducts the operational business and monitors the micro credit lending operations. Moreover, EEA mobilizes volunteers and students from Dar es Salaam University, Germany, and the United States who perform organizational tasks, conduct and analyze community research, and provide trainings and workshops for staff and clients.

The management of EEA includes a Leadership Team and Local Advisory Group. EEA involves international experts who help EEA with planning, implementing, and monitoring strategy in a voluntary basis.

Leadership Associates

Dr. Jasson Kalugendo is the founder and executive director of EEA. Born and raised in Tanzania, he has worked internationally in Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and the United States, networking with different partners and stakeholders nationally and internationally, founding a new organization, teaching at both grassroots and university levels, and working for over 15 years in the community. He obtained his Doctoral Philosophy degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Indiana, USA where he devoted much of his time to studying the sociological patterns of bonding and bridging social capital. He holds two degrees in public relations and social communication from Daystar University, Nairobi, Kenya, also taking classes in social work. He has participated in strategic planning, leadership development and organizational management seminars.

Jerry Twombly is the co-founder and president of EEA and coordinates the EEA-USA Advisory Board. He became intrigued with national development practices in 1970 while working as a professor at Word of Life Bible Institute at Schroon Lake, NY. In addition to his teaching experience, Jerry Twombly has worked in public relations, student recruitment, and fund-raising. In 1973, he returned to Grace Theological Seminary to pursue post-graduate studies where he assumed a position in the development office in exchange for a salary and free tuition. During his nearly 40 years of working with Christian ministries and organizations in all 50 states of America, five of nine Canadian provinces, and several countries around the world, Jerry Twombly assisted 3,500 clients to raise over USD two billion for programs and services.

Dirk Sander is a co-founder of EEA, a consultant for corporate social responsibility and micro finance. Sander also coordinates EEA’s German Advisory Board. He was trained and examined by Grameen Trust in Bangladesh. He has worked for 17 years in various executive functions for Citibank Germany. His most recent position was as a credit and risk manager and branch manager. In addition Sander achieved his MBA degree to add to his education and credentials.

Dr. Birgit Galemann is an independent consultant for Financial Systems Development focusing in the micro finance area (www.financedev.eu) with long term experience in Uganda. She has worked for over thirteen years at Deutsche Bank in New York, London and Frankfurt in particular in Market – and Credit Risk Management. In her latest role as “Head of the Derivatives Exposure Methodology Group at DB” she was responsible for the methodologically development and implementation of Deutsche Bank’s global credit exposure system.

Michael Schleicher, Currently studies within the master course “International Economics” at Goettingen University, Germany. After his Bachelor degree in economics, Michael volunteered for EEA in Tanzania for two months and particularly supported the improvement of loan monitoring procedures as well as the administration of credit profiles.

Nicola Tofaute, Start up consultant for women and former project leader for German Adult Education Association (DVV). Nicola Tofaute is currently in her educational holiday.

Kathrin Walz holds an University degree in Pedagogy with focus on social development, NGOs, human rights and empowerment. Currently she is working as voluntary project manager for EEA and as internet assessor for Lionbridge Inc..

Tanzanian Advisory Board

•         Kathleen Charles, strategic planning and investment promotion advisor

•         Elias Mashasi, chairperson, was an executive director with parastatal organizations in Tanzania for 20 years and spent the last 10 years working with the International Labour Organization.

•         Deogratias Mutalemwa, development economist with extensive experience in government affairs, rural development, public policy, and development lending operations, including nearly 20 years in the Ministry for Finance for the Government of Tanzania, 10 years as director of International Cooperation and Co-financing for the African Development Bank in Belgium. In addition, since retirement in 1997, senior research fellow and coordinator for the Tanzania Participatory Poverty Assessment.

The Ecosocial Forum, a Think-tank and non-profit organisation in Germany and Austria, chaired by the former EU Commissioner Franz Fischler, is devoted to promoting the concept of an “Ecosocial Market Economy”. Ecosocial Market Economy refers to an economic model, which is based on establishing a balance between economic, ecological und social sustainabilty in the respective cultural context.

The GENISIS Institute is a think-and-do-tank for Social Business issues.
